The Ford GT is once again under public scrutiny as four incidents of loose half-shafts have been reported to Federal safety regulators, according to a recent report by Automotive News. A loose or detached half-shaft can result in a loss of power to the rear wheels. There are no current plans for Federal investigation. Previously, Ford has admitted to a larger problem involving broken shaft bolts during acceleration in 60 Ford GTs. The defect can be resolved though the replacement of questionable washers and Ford says it is not a safety concern. Despite ending production last year after 4,000 examples were built, the Ford GT continues to be a performance icon with prices remaining well over $100,000 for used models.
